#15: How to balance your hormones?

Are your hormones out of balance?

So firstly, let talk about what actually hormones are? Hormones are chemical messengers produced by endocrine glands in your body. For example the pancreas in the islets of Langerhans, produces the hormone insulin. Insulin then tells the cells to let sugar, in the form of glucose, into the cell, so that it can be used for energy.

How could your hormones be out of balance and

why does this happen?

Sometimes you can have either too much or too less of a particular hormone which then results in an imbalance. This could be caused by many different reasons.

Well some of the causes of hormones becoming out of balance are as follows:-

  • stress

  • toxic load

  • alcohol

  • poor nutrition

  • dieting

  • poor sleep

  • parasites

  • yeast infections

So what are the some of the symptoms?

  • fatigue

  • no energy

  • feeling wired but tired

  • weight gain

  • poor sleep

  • food cravings

  • depression

  • poor digestion

  • gut problems

  • allergies

  • pain

  • inflammation

Would you actually know if your hormones are out of balance?

Some people experience different symptoms at different levels and could just put it down to ageing when really it is a hormone imbalance that can be corrected.

All hormones are good as they have a job to do, however if they become out of balance, they become bad or a problem for the body.

~Did you know that elevated estrogen and elevated insulin lay down more fat cells or that fat burning hormones decrease when you go on a diet.

Yes it's true, important hormones actually can drop by 50% after 7 days of dieting and this gets worse the longer you stay on a diet. When I say diet I mean restricting calories, as the word diet actually means a particular way of eating.

Xenoestrogens mimic estrogen in the body thereby disrupting the endocrine system and causing havoc.

The only sure way to find out if your hormones are out of balance is to test.

I personally used something called a DUTCH test to have mine checked.

In the mean time make sure you are eating a healthy diet, stay active and have a healthy lifestyle because hormones are responsible tor many different jobs in the body and when they become out of balance it can cause many complications.

More about hormones, to follow in a later blog, so look out for that one, it will be blog number #17.

So until next time this is,
